Normally our energy bill is about $175. The highest it has ever been in the 2 years we have been here is $220. This last bill that we got was $513. Yeah, that's right. And guess what?? We were out of town for 1 week during that month. So how can this bill be so high, you ask?? Well, for starters, because we have to bend over and take it from the electricity company. Vincent called them and told them that he wanted to have the meter checked out, just in case something was wrong with it. The tard on the phone proceeded to tell Vincent that nothing is wrong with the meter and that we probably just left something on that wasn't supposed to be on. Aw, gee, thanks tard- that's really helpful. Vincent hates stupid people even more than I do so he went into a long conversation and asked her all sorts of questions to prove she was a moron. Personally, I would've just hung up. So then we decide to call our AC company to have our unit checked out because really the question surrounding that thing is "When is it NOT broke??" We're fairly certain it has something to do with it seeing as the last time something was wrong with it, the repair guy screwed up and turned on the fan in the attic (what was he doing up there???) and we had absolutely no way to turn it off except by becoming AC techs ourselves and going up to the attic to clean up after this guy's mistake. Obviously, that didn't happen. So for almost 2 months the fan was on 24/7 because we couldn't get anyone out here to fix it. And this is because the company that built our house- Pulte- insists on making all of our service requests for us (because obviously we're not paying) so they took their sweet time doing it since it's not their fan running 24/7.
So, with this situation, it's obvious that it's more than likely the fan that caused the bill to go up, right?? Not according to Pulte. They don't want to call the AC company to come over and check out the unit to make sure it's nothing else besides the fan because, accordingly to our customer service rep "Wait, I don't understand, it doesn't sound like you can be sure it's the AC unit. So nothing's wrong with the AC right now, is that what I'm hearing? I can only send the AC company out there if there's something wrong with the AC unit right now." I have had to tell this particular moron in 5 different phone calls that we need it checked out in order to rule it out. I finally told him that if my baby goes into distress, I will make sure that Pulte pays for it.
So now we're having to educate ourselves on this problem. The energy company said it looks like we're going to have another high bill on the next one so we've decided we can't just assume it's the AC unit. I did all this research on the internet and found out how to tell what's sucking the life out of our energy. We turn off all the breakers and then look at our meter, then one by one, turn the breakers back on. Whatever sends our meter spinning fast is the culprit.
So anyone out there have any advice?? Anyone had to deal with a situation like this?? What happened? I'm just so scared that we're not going to figure out what's going on and continue to have $500+ energy bills forever, forever, ever, forever, ever ever.......I only wish there was a cool reason for it, like we threw an amazing party that lasted an entire week. But it might get awkward if I posted this blog and you weren't invited.....yikes.
Anyway, other than that, we have nothing else going on. I have class twice a week and work has been great working with my hubby :) Actually we don't hardly talk to each other (that would be lame) even though we sit a few rows apart right now. My back is still hurting but I think I'm adjusting to the pain. Oh and KY2k9 is almost here!! I leave for Morgs and Jake's exactly 2 weeks from today!! Wooohooo!! Oh and I'm teaching the dogs to dance to Eminem's new song (he is a lyrical genius, right??? the dogs just love him!!) Other than that, we just keep on, keepin' on............
